History

Stegmanns was founded by Izak Edwin Stegmann and Nicholas De Jongh who entered into partnership in 1890 in Pretoria . As partners came and went over the years the name of the firm varied but it always included the name Stegmanns regardless of who the actual partners were at any given time. In 1970 the firm adopted Stegmanns as its trade and brand name. In February 2005, the firm incorporated and is now known as Stegmanns Inc.

At our Head Office in Pretoria our Directors are Michelle Horn, Colette Botha , Nicole Pagel, Erris van Kerken, Gary Warne and Flora Sibanyoni . Buddy Glen and Alan Wilson have both retired after many years of practice and continue as Consultants. Kelby Robinson, Tracy-Erin Watson and Erusha Reddy are our professional assistants.

In March 2005, we opened a branch office in Nelspruit under the Directorship of Julie Brosens . The branch offers the same services as our head office.

About Us

Stegmanns currently reflects a dynamic combination of expertise, youth and gender. We have always rendered excellent legal service to our community and provided an avenue for the betterment of both professional and non-professional staff.

Apart from our professionals being highly qualified lawyers, one of our greatest assets lies in our excellent service to clients. Throughout our long history in practice we have continually adapted in order to fine tune our expertise and ensure capable handling of all legal issues.

We offer both corporate and individual clients specialised services such as litigation, estate planning and administration, property law and conveyancing, bond registrations, land restitution claims, land expropriations, alternative dispute resolutions, labour law, debt recoveries, family law, commercial law, company law, insolvency law, constitutional and human rights law.

We represent many financial and other large institutions and are able to effectively meet their demands for high volumes and quick turnaround times whilst maintaining personal relationships which our institutional clients require. Serving these clients has enabled us to keep pace with the rapid progress in technology in our profession and we utilise the most advanced programmes to meet our client's requirements.

We have embraced the concepts of affirmative action, employment equity and gender equality on performance based criteria. We believe it is important that our firm reflects the demographics of our country and we strive to achieve this objective. The success of our programme is dependant on the support of our clients. We are a level two BBBEE Contributor with a rating of 93.70.

We participate in the Integrated Bar Project placement programme which places law students from previously disadvantaged communities with law firms in their final academic year. We introduce these students to various practical legal fields, preparing and equipping them to enter the profession with a solid foundation and confidence.

The same high standards and loyalty applies to our non professional staff. We currently employ 37 general secretaries, receptionists, messengers and clerks who together provide an effective infrastructure for the professionals. Each one is an integral part of the firm and we offer them courses to achieve academic and social advancement.

The sense of loyalty and commitment displayed by our staff is reflected by the long service of many employees, often more than 20 years. We assist previously disadvantaged staff members to improve their expertise and we promote from within. Members have progressed from filing departments to become assistant bookkeepers, cashiers, Estate Administrators, conveyancing secretaries and paralegals.

Conclusion

Stegmanns is one of very few firms to successfully enter its second century in practice. We see it as a great challenge to meet the requirements of clients by improving our expertise, efficiency and productivity. We remain committed to affirmative action and employment equality in the composition and running our firm.
